5 Tips to Help You Throw a Great Sober Party

Parties often center around drinking alcohol and using other drugs. So you may feel like you can’t go to parties anymore if you are in recovery, but that is simply not the case. Celebrations are a great thing, and learning how to celebrate events in a sober way is definitely a positive thing.

Sober parties can actually be really fun. If others are in recovery as well, they will feel much better about having a sober party. The most important part of any event, though, is the people. So make sure you invite people who are a lot of fun. Here are some other ways to throw an amazing sober party:

1. Have a Theme Party

If your party is celebrating a particular event like a holiday or a birthday, that can be the theme. You can also do a decade-themed party or a book/movie-themed party. There are a ton of other themes to choose from. With theme parties, your guests will be focused more on the theme of the party than what they are drinking.

2. Have Some Activities

Give people something to do. Play video games or board games. Open presents or eat cake. Play music and make a dance floor. You could also host your party at an ice skating rink or a mini-golf course. The sky is the limit.

3. Have the Party Outside

Parties that are outdoors are a lot of fun regardless of any drinking. You could have a party in the backyard or at a local park. Have a barbeque or just enjoy the scenery. People will not expect there to be alcohol if the party is outdoors.

4. Have a Daytime Party

Parties that take place during the day are not expected to have alcohol. Most of the alcohol-centered parties occur at night.

Your party could center around different teas, coffees, or sodas. You could make tasty mocktails or smoothies. You could make milkshakes. The possibilities are endless.

There are tons of ways to throw a sober party. These are just a few ideas. The main thing, though, is that you want to have fun. People have this misconception that sober people can’t have fun, but that isn’t true. And you’ll have a lot more fun when you realize you can remember everything that happened and you’re not hungover!

You also want to make sure that you are very clear with all of your guests about the fact that the only drinks at the party will be non-alcoholic drinks. This way everyone will know going into it that the party will not have alcohol. This does not mean, however, that it will be any less fun!
